careful with selfcare
SELFCARE. #loveyourself #liveyourbestlife #selfcaresunday . We see it, hear it, and buy into it with our minds — and wallets. Do we actually know what that means to us personally? Have we stopped to acknowledge where we are deficient and made appropriate changes? I am questioning myself also as I type this. Liking all the picturesque flowery bath tub pics, and spa pages don’t actually bring us that rest and health. What we are in need of is something much deeper; something more integral than a Sunday of masking (though it never hurts).
If we are all unique as individuals, then so our needs must be also. So why then do we believe that that one product, or retreat will be the key to our vitality. If you really think about it, all the stress of trying to buy, carve out time, and of course take that perfect picture to show you did it, is so opposite of restful that it kind of defeats the purpose of it all. Our bodies are too smart to not distinguish against stress. You can drink all the pretty matchas you want, but if while you drink it you are consumed by the pressure of it being perfect enough then you might as well have had a Diet Coke and called it a day.
The search for balance can be dated back to ancient times. It is a pursuit worthy of a lifetime. But since most of us don’t have the luxury of locking ourselves away in a monastery until we figure it all out, we must make smaller daily decisions. Set a goal for yourself this week: Pick two things to change/do different. This could mean saying no to something, finally making that appointment, or simply just shutting off your phone. Give yourself a moment to think on it, write it down to set the intention, then go do it! Remember to set realistic goals (the stress thing).
Go and be well,
